As a result, everyone has learned to take advantage of his generosity and cordiality. Because of this, Ègide becomes embittered. In the City of Inventors, where ideas, discoveries, and inventions are dedicated to scientific and technological progress, Ègide creates marvelous inventions but never puts them into production: the world doesn't deserve his genius. Instead, he exploits the loopholes in the Official Patent Regulation, accusing anyone who produces similar or identical inventions to his secretly patented ones, earning more from compensation than he would from producing and selling them. With the help of Alina, his astute housekeeper, and under the guidance of Lawyer Dalmasia, Kupin executes his plan, filing and winning hundreds of lawsuits. He becomes the most feared inventor of the century, earning the title of "usurer of ideas." But the arrival of Mario Cardì, a young and sharp inventor who sees Kupin as a master to surpass, sparks an intense competition between the two in terms of inventions and patents. While Cardì achieves legal victory, Kupin retains intellectual supremacy.
