Evil Does Not Exist Kötülük Diye Bir Şey Yok

Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, who won an Oscar for Best International Film in 2022 with Drive My Car, directed this new film, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September, where it won the Grand Jury Prize. This political thriller, centering on ecological destruction, follows Takumi and his daughter in a mountain town near Tokyo. Takumi, whose ancestors lived for generations in harmony and tranquility with the order and cycles of nature, learns that a "glamping" resort is to be built on land near their home. Presented as a place for those weary of the nearby city to escape to, it turns out that this facility will both affect the town's water resources and disrupt the ecological balance of the region. There Is No Such Thing as Evil is part of a two-part collaborative project between director Ryûsuke Hamaguchi and musician Eiko Ishibashi, who also composed the film's music.
