Sophia Youssef is a Greek-Lebanese filmmaker with over a decade of experience writing, producing, and directing for BBC, HBO, and ONE Entertainment. Her latest accolade was being the grand-prize recipient for Tribeca's THROUGH HER LENS program with her film BLACK SHORE. She has also been shortlisted for grants such as WIF, Rising Voices, and Disney Launchpad. Her previous film, LEAVING LEBANON, was produced by Disney as part of their Underrepresented Storytellers program and TO THE DUST premiered at AFI Fest and was AFI's official entry for the Yugo BAFTA Award. Growing up between the Middle East and Europe, Sophia's work is deeply influenced by her experience of navigating different cultures. She has a passion for creating atmospheric character studies, often blending magical realism with elements of horror. Her narratives frequently explore themes of social inequity, the search for belonging, and the complex, often unsettling layers of the female experience.
