• About Laura Boyd Owen

Laura Boyd Owen is an award-winning director, producer, and editor whose work centers on social impact and human-centered storytelling. Her debut feature documentary The Call, which explores the mental health crisis among firefighters and first responders, received international recognition including Best Female Director - Feature Film at the Cannes World Film Festival, received recognition from the Replay International Film Festival and honors from the Toronto Documentary Film Festival. She earned a B.A. in Film & Video from Columbia College Chicago and has built a career across documentary filmmaking, broadcast television, and digital media. Early in her career, Laura completed an international short documentary in Nicaragua, further shaping her interest in socially driven storytelling. Her professional experience includes creative roles at the Chicago Tribune, WGN America, Antenna TV, and Newsy, producing content for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. In addition to nonfiction work, Laura has begun developing narrative projects, including the short screenplay That Cold Feeling, in festival consideration. Her work is marked by emotional restraint, editorial clarity, and a commitment to stories that examine lived experience and systems of power.
