Alving García Marcano is a Venezuelan documentary filmmaker whose work explores political movements, democratic struggles, and the human stories behind global crises. His films often focus on individuals whose voices are rarely heard, seeking to document lived experiences with intimacy and historical context. Born in Venezuela and based in North Carolina, García Marcano became involved in the Venezuelan opposition movement in 2016 amid escalating political repression and mass protests. His directorial debut, Repression in Paradise (2019), chronicles the 2017 Venezuelan uprising through firsthand accounts from protesters, political leaders, resistance members, and state police. The film has accumulated more than 14 million views worldwide, received multiple festival awards, and later secured distribution on Amazon Prime.
