Hilda Peter is a Hungarian-Romanian actress who attracted international attention with her film debut as the title character in Katalin Varga (2009) directed by Peter Strickland, which had its world premiere in competition at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival, winning recognition at Berlin and numerous other festivals worldwide. Hilda and the film were internationally praised. Born and raised in Transylvania, her breakthrough performance earned her a British Independent Film Awards nomination for Most Promising Newcomer, Best Actress wins at the Brussels European Film Festival, Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, Riverrun International Film Festival in North Carolina, Gopo Awards, and Romanian Union of Filmmakers. Encouraged by the international recognition from her film debut, Hilda moved to London to pursue film acting. She continued to work internationally, appearing in feature films across London, Germany, and Hungary, as well as short films and theatre productions, before being selected as the female lead in the Romanian feature Box (2015), directed by Florin Serban, which premiered at Karlovy Vary where it won the FIPRESCI Award and was also presented at the Toronto International Film Festival, earning Hilda additional Gopo Awards nomination. Her additional film credits include the London-shot Chasing Robert Barker (2015), which won the UK's National Film Awards for Best Action Film. Hilda has made California her home base. Hilda Peter began her career on the stages of her homeland as a rising talent in theatre, receiving a UNITER (Romanian Theatre Union) nomination, the most prestigious theatre award in Romania, for the role of Shen Te/Shui Ta in "The Good Person of Szechwan" by Bertolt Brecht in the first years of her career and soon being recognized in Romania and Hungary, being the best secondary actress in both countries in one year, receiving the UNITER and The Award of the Hungarian Theatre Critics for the role of Lucky in "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett. She also received the prestigious Mari Jászai Award from Hungary's Ministry of Education and Culture, honoring her work in Hungarian theater.
